Poets have noted a special light that exists only at 45° latitude; the Willamette Valley is between 44° and 46°.
Valley poet Franz Dolp looked out across the Valley from atop Mary's Peak and wrote,
“Morning is a light-flood on the mountain,
dew prisms on leaves of grass,
a day of yellow, lily and buttercup, of purple-white,
lupine and iris, red of columbine,
scattered where life is sweet, short, intense...”
