Housing density will increase under each scenario; eight houses per acre under Plan Trend 2050, six per acre under Development 2050, and nine per acre under Conservation 2050. There are many strategies that will allow for increased densities while still maintaining the quality and character of neighborhoods.
For example, infill with accessory apartments, or "granny flats," can be added to the primary residential unit on a single-family plot. Not only does this technique increase housing options, but it potentially makes it more affordable for homeowners to live there, as rental income can serve as a source of supplementary income.
