An important aspect of Conservation 2050 is the restoration of native vegetation, much of which takes place on agricultural lands. Restoration isn't imposed on farmers, but instead encouraged through a variety of incentives. Conservation easements, transfers of development rights, and restoration grants are a few examples of ways farmers can be compensated for raising habitat instead of crops.
Conservation 2050 also predicts the use of field borders and low-input crops in sensitive areas. Development often converts prime farmland, while restoration activities focus on marginal farmland.
